Most Exalted Brother, Beta Epsilon

reads "The Definition of a Gentleman"

Mayor Jorge Dominador Ilio, Jr. makes his response in behalf of the Ilio family. He also read a written message from his younger brother, Brod Dennis Ilio, who could not attend the Parangal.

BEAI President Cesar Yniguez, BE Exalted Brother Chef Ramirez and Parangal Coordinator Ojie Alzona present to Mayor Dom Ilio, Jr. the message book which contains messages of condolences for Prof's family and two CDs of the video documentary.

The BEAI alumni and the residents led by MEB Renren Custodio coordinated very closely to manage the one thousand and one tasks that have to be attended to in a tribute that turned out to be a standing hall affair because of the unexpected number of friends of Prof Ilio who walked in..

Master of Ceremonies

Thanks to:

  • MEB Renren and the resident brods for the preparations in the theater and actual assistance in the technicals during the Parangal.

  • Bernie Mendoza and Jon Kasilag who helped during the memorial service at Engineering.

  • Lorrie Febre and Betanette Cita who donated the banners hung at the Engineering steps and lobby of the Engineering theater.

  • Brods who are all members of the Betan text brigade.

  • Ojie Alzona, the Parangal Coordinator

The Beta Epsilon collective and brotherhood worked wonders considering that there was not much time to do all the preparations.

HANDSHAKES OF CONDOLENCE TO THE FAMILY OF PROF ILIO

The Parangal Committee made an oversight: Renren, the MEB, and representing the fraternity, should have lined up with the Ilio family when the handshakes of condolence were offered. That is because there are two families that  lost a father: the Ilio family and the Beta Epsilon fratermily.

Betaway Joe and Visita Iglesia Lino, Roger Panlasigui and the apos of Brod Dom Ilio

At the end of the ceremonies, when the non-Betan guests, had left, the brods went to the stage to sing the fraternity song.

This is how it looked when the brods filed out for the processional - many vacant chairs.

Danny Lopez, the guitarist of the Betan Choir

Balikbayan Respi tours the Dom Ilio Engg Archives. Later he requested to be allowed to make a testimonial.

Rey Vea greets  Dom Ilio Jr. (Joji) and Amy.

Before martial law, Rey and Joji were members of the activist organization called SDK (Samahang ng Demokratikong Kabataan).

Joji's involvement in activist organizations -- at that time it was called a  "subversive" activity, not yet a "terrorist" activity  --  was the reason for Prof Ilio's  arrest and detention in a Camp Crame stockade in December 1972 that Prof took advantage of to write more poems..

Later Joji was arrested and detained too. He went on to become Mayor of Malinao while Rey went on to became dean of UP-COE and now President of MAPUA University.

Da Behn

greets El Sid

DOST Secretary Estrella Alabastro talks with Chancellor Segio Cao (left) and with brods Pol Abis and Jun Berba.

My kabatch/balikbayan Mac, with Louie Sison and Pete Maniego. (Right: with Prof. Gene Marzan)

(Louie, dalas-dalasan mo ang punta sa mga BE functions)

Brod Doming's family came in full force, with an apo to boot. Shown are Tess, Kathleen and Mabel

Yats Obias, elegantly dressed for a last salute to Prof.

Dong Salazar and Romy. Also shown is former UP-COE Dean Sonny Viray.

Sid chats with Juinio Dean (son of Din Juinio, the pun after Prof Ilio)

Boy exchanges greetings  with Joji's family of beauty and grace, a phrase used by Prof Ilio in a Beta Epsilon Times issue to describe Boy's own family.

Stein, still lame with his left leg in a cast, bravely walked in with the aid of his Betanette and a crutch. He did not want to miss  a last salute to Prof Ilio.

The number of guests was unexpected, so we ran out of supply of  drinks and coffee and sandwiches even if brods provided for more than the estimated number of guests.

BTW, that's our brod Alexis talking with Angel Lazaro III, former MWSS administrator.
