 Fireworks

These spasms of chrysanthemums of light
are like emotions
exploding under a curved night that corresponds

The UP Lantern Parade earlier culminated with a fireworks display courtesy of the Beta Epsilon Fraternity . There was a gathering of students on the steps of Quezon Hall, the one facing the giant grassland ampitheater. Many students were in front, anticipating the fireworks display to be directly shot in front of Quezon Hall. My group settled near the outskirts of the ampitheater. Somehow, there was a gut feeling which told me, we had to stay there to watch the fireworks display.

What happened was unexpected. The fireworks were set near the Carillon. As it turned out, we were directly beneath the fireworks display. With all dignity forgotten, my mouth was wide open during the whole display. It lasted for ten minutes which roughly translates to two million pesos. Suddenly, the lanterns were forgotten. The noise was ignored. My eyes remained fix on the sky.

For a brief moment, everyone stared at the sky. After the display, everyone resumed with their same old lives, untouched, unfazed - the memory of the lights forgotten. Everyone walked away even if there was mass action after the formal program. Seems like everyone would like to keep the memory of the lines. It's not worth the effort. When New Year comes, there will be more memories of lights towering over those who refused to care.

But I will never forget the night when the light seemed to envelop me. I felt like drowning, even bowing to the glory of the momentary display. I will never forget the night when the sky seemed true to me. I would never forget the light suspended in mid-air while another set of lights engulf the dying. The night when everything seemed to be pointless, only the sky remained.

After the fireworks, only smoke remains.

UP Lantern Parade 2007

The most attended event in UP, the annual lantern parade. As much

as I can, I really try to watch the event yearly. I remember, I was still working in Manila, I would apply for a leave just to see the parade. Before the parade started, I walked around and took some shots of the more common places/buildings in the university. I really love UP! Though some things have changed, it still is the place I go to

whenever I would need peace. So many good memories in this place.

Heniwey, back to the parade... I didn't really have a good location. I stationed myself in front of the CBA building, and some floats didn't really pass that area. I missed College of Music, Masscom, and my college, Stat! Sayang, ganda pa naman daw yung sa Stat :(

The parade ended fabulously with a bonggacious fireworks display (my shots however are not that fabulous, sorry). Its a prelude daw to the UP Centennial celebration.

I just loved the Lantern Parade this year. Not that I didn't those of the last two years, but I think the UP Admin made this year's parade a little more special. The lanterns were extraordinarily nice, with lights and all (although the theme, National Artists, was not so masa. Hehe). Also, the fireworks display was really awesome. Super cool talaga. The skies literally lit up. Sabi nga ni Chesa, "The fireworks display was not pretentious at all!" Haha.

para akong bata kagabi -- humihiyaw at pumapalakpak sa bawat pagbulusok ng mga paputok sa ere. masaya ako at napanood ko ang una't huli kong Lantern Parade sa UP. at hindi ko napigilang umiyak.

sa gitna ng karagatan ng mga taong naglalakad kahapon papunta sa direksyon ng sunken garden, sa wakas ay naramdaman kong Pasko na nga. at hinugot ng ideyang iyon ang lahat ng emosyong ayoko na sanang pansinin.

huling Pasko sa UP: ngayong second sem, mas umigting ang kagustuhan kong umalis na sa UP. pwedeng sabihing nagsasawa na ako, sa mga bagay na dapat gawin pero hindi naman nakakatuwa, at sa mga taong mapagpanggap at mapagkunwari. pero kagabi naisip kong mamimiss ko ang UP. kung para sa mga kaganapang ito na nagpaparamdam sa akin na kaisa ako ng sangka-yupihan, gusto ko pa ring manatili. pero hindi naman pwedeng palagi akong nasa UP, ngunit masaya pa rin akong naranasan ko ang mag-aral sa pamantasang ito.

unang Paskong wala si daddy: bago ang fireworks kagabi, may dalawa o tatlong taon din akong hindi nakapanood ng fireworks. kasama pa namin noon si daddy. at tuwang-tuwa siya lagi pagkatapos ng fireworks display. wish ko lang nakita ni daddy ang nangyari kagabi. sana rin masaya na siya ngayon kung nasaan man siya.

at naiyak ako, parang batang pinapatahan ni laurice.

hay.

bata pa nga talaga ako. masyadong natatangay ng mga pangyayari, ng emosyon. pero ayos lang. at least alam kong totoo ang nararamdaman ko. at hinaharap ko iyon.

Never ever leave early..or you'll miss the lights! Nakalimutan ko ung sakit ng namamaltos kong paa, nung nag-umpisa na ung fireworks display. I was in awe. I don't know how to explain the feeling when I was watching the fireworks lit the sky. Sabihin nyo ng mababaw..pero na-overwhelm ako. Tatabi na sana ako sa crush ko. Kunwari we're watching it together. Wish ko lang!  

So sad..he's with someone else.. OUCH! I wouldn't want to ruin my night..so I kept my sight on the sky instead..=)

ang ganda ng fireworks diba?!!wahaha.wag kang mag-aalala nads di ka nag-iisa. ako nga tumatalon pa ako habang nanonood nung fireworks.di ko maexplain yung feeling.nakakaoverwhelm talaga!!!waah.(tnx beta epsilon for the wonderful wondferful wonderful fireworks!!!!) and we have the same feeling.I love UP yesterday more than ever.love ko UP!love ko UP!love ko UP!

Lantern Parade

I was particularly upset today because Jevie didn't had the time to at least join me my last lantern parade as an undergrad student in UP. It was like he broke a tradition that we both started ever since I was a freshman. I hated myself so much for I have no one to really be with this night -- not a single soul cared to spare me some of their time. I felt like a sore loser not to have a "real" friend by my side.

On the lighter note, my sister was such a blessing because she somehow "adopted" me today. I watched the parade with her and her group of friends-- Luis, Caleb, Cons, Lara, Nikki and Tammy. Luckily, they were all very nice so I didn't have a hard time mingling with them. I look happy the whole day when in fact inside, I was bleeding to death.

The parade was amazing. It really showcased how talented and creative UP students can be. I would have been nicer if my college created a lantern that is more competitive. My favorite is the one made by an FA class, wherein the contemporary oble did the papaya dance! :) It was really hilarious. Another favorite lantern is the Ikotron, again made by an FA class, where the Ikot jeepney transforms to a robot. It was really cool! :)

To end the night, there was a fireworks display sponsored by Beta Epsilon. This was one of the best and longest I've ever seen since freshman. I was also amazed how the fireworks where synchronized with the music. My mouth was open the whole time. Hands down to Beta Ep!

My last lantern parade would have been happier and more special if I were with the people I'm expecting to be with. It hurts how things ended up the exact opposite of how I anticipated it to be.
