Thanks for the feedback, Ed.
As it turned out, or so it seemed to me, the essential part or the very
core of the Remembrance Hour is the Reading of Names of all the departed
brothers. The Prayer for the Dead which you contributed gave it a very
good framework.
All the other items are details which the next group, hopefully led by
resident brothers as you suggest, can decide on. I cannot imagine Manny
Agustines though, putting a chaleco over his very beautiful barong. : )
My co-coordinator, brother chaplain Jeffrey Presinede, sent me a feedback
also, and I answered it at length. Will share it with you later.

Subject: Post event evaluation of the Remembrance Hour
Hello Brod,
I thought we should evaluate last night’s Remembrance Hour, while it is
still fresh in our minds. Now that we have staged the first one, the next
one should be easier to stage, but should be better. So let us make a list
of things to do to improve the event next year.
I believe the following were the good points of last night’s event:
* It was held in the month of November.
* It was held at the U.P. Chapel.
* Fr. Jboy was very supportive of the idea and allowed it to be integrated
with the mass.
* There was about one hour of fellowship at Delaney Hall before the mass.
* Betanettes, including family members of dead brothers were invited to
the affair.
* It was a joint alumni-resident brother undertaking.
Although in the beginning, there was a lot of discussion about who will
approve the activity, or about when or where to hold it, near the end,
everybody supported the idea, especially the following:
* The Resident Brods who took care of inviting the priest, arranging for
the use of the chapel and Delaney Hall, and providing the manpower for
various tasks before and during the mass during mass and our Remembrance
Hour.
* Alumni readers of names and roll call caller.
* Ed Paynor who came up with the Prayer for the Dead script.
* Manny Agustines who provided food, drinks, payment for the chapel and
Delaney Hall, secretarial and printing support.
* Video documentation from the wife and daughter of Mon Ramirez.
* Still photo documentation from Leony.
* Bernie Abis who provided and updated the List of Departed Brothers.
* Ojie Alzona who drummed up alumni attendance.
* Jun Berba for the idea of “initialization” or the reading of the names
of all our departed brothers.
* Egbert Abiad and Jeffrey Presinede did a lot of the tasks, and
coordinated efforts of all supporters and contributors to the effort.
But there is much room for improvement. I would like your comment on the
program especially. Our rite took 1-1/2 hours including the mass. Mabuti
naman at hindi naging Remembrance 2-Hours. But I wonder really if we can
make it just one hour.
Here are the major parts of the program that took time:
Roll Call of Members Present
Prayer for the Dead*
(*Prayer, Reading of Names, and Tolling of the Bell for Departed Brothers)
Sharing of Personal Memories
Reading of a Definition of a Gentleman
I feel (gut feel lang naman) that the Prayer of the Dead part where we
read all the names of our departed brothers became the high point of the
service. If I were to delete some parts to shorten the service, it would
be in this order:
1. Roll Call
2. Sharing of Personal Memories
How about you? What would you delete or would you have some other
suggestion to improve or make the program shorter?
I look forward to hearing from you.
All the BEst,
Egbert

Brod,
First of all thanks to all brods who participated and will continue to
participate in contributing ideas and their physically presence in the
first BERH. As far as I am concerned, there were 3 KEY players that the
brods should acknowledge and thank and I believe these were Brod Egbert
Abiad, Brod Manny Agustines and Brod MEB Lito Mortella. The event could
not have happened without the lead of these 3 brods.
The next level of support whose names were already mentioned came from
other alumni and resident brods who in one way or another supported the
affair.
This BERH together with Necrological services during the wake of brods (at
least for those in metro manila) should be institutionalized. The
following are some comments or suggestions that can form part of the post
event evaluation of the BERH.
1. The BERH should be within 9 days after nov 1 each year preferably on a
Friday between 7-8 pm and the Mass is an integral part of the BERH.
2. The resident brods headed by the MEB and the resident chaplain should
handle the coordination.
3. The alumni brods should take care of the budget & logistics.
4. A "chaleco" style uniform should be provided. It will be used during
remembrance hour and necro rites by the officiating brods and speakers.
These uniforms after each use should be collected back and kept by the
resident chaplain or the MEB. Other rods may buy from the frat a similar
uniform for their personal use.
5. A bell should be purchased and kept for the use of the BERH and the
Necro rites.
6. Perhaps we can also incorporate the use of the bell and a prayer for
the dead during the necro rites too.
7. Snacks prior to the remembrance hour should be limited to cold water
and crackers unless the family of the deceased brods who will attend fuute
BERH will offer other forms of snacks.
8. Just like the KAPIHAN, a "special" logbook should be provided for each
BERH or Necro rites for attendance purposes. This logbook will be used for
each occasion indicating the date, time and place of the BERH, Necro
rites. The officiating priest should perhaps print and sign in our Logbook
including the widow of the dead brod.
9. In the next BERH, speakers should be given a limit of 20 minutes total
i.e. if there are 4 speakers, 5 minutes each, if there are only 2 speakers
10 minutes each (more or less).
10. I suggest removing the definition of the gentleman during the BERH and
retained during the necro rites.
11. Like the necro rites, we should have an entrance song when the brods
are entering the chapel after the assembly outside.
12. others.
